Too much TV

because my ISP - I call it "3g may be " is down again this evening I have
been alternately sleeping, getting leg cramps, see the BLOOG in the sidebar, and turning on
the TV.

I learn useful factoids - like serious snow in Kurdistan threatens the IRAQ
elections and the white rhinocerus is a WIDE (mouthed) grass grazing
animal, and grey like the black rhino. which eats leaves and branches,
"white" is from an old dutch word meaning wide.

I saw a fully grown giraffe being felled by lions, not a nice sight.

Bell labs radio telescopecomplete with nesting pigeons still picked up the
radio background noise from the Big Bang

I love BBC Learning,
but BBC World has the this horrible 'til ready music at five minutes to the
hour which provokes my zapping thumb.

Pop-up purveyors are finding ways around popular new filters that aim to stomp them out, the latest sign of an Internet arms race over one of the most effective and controversial Web advertising formats around.

But marketers intent on preserving and extending the lucrative format have already developed workarounds that are duping existing blockers, setting the stage for a major battle for control over consumer PC screens.

Music to our Ears: Ring tones that announce incoming calls with popular tunes are a hit with teens - The Register-Guard, Eugene, Oregon, USA: "In London, ring tones are so popular that you can buy them from vending machines in some Underground stations.

The downside of such popularity was apparent in Copenhagen, Denmark, last month, when the conductor leading the Danish Symphony Orchestra halted a performance of Maurice Ravel when a phone in the hall offered a rival melody.

In Japan, the average cell phone subscriber purchases 17 ring tones a year, according to telecommunications surveys there. "

Members of the Napster generation, whose music downloading habits have battered the recording industry, finally have found tunes they are willing to pay for - in the form of customized 20- to 30-second ring tones for their cellular phones.

``I'd say more than half the kids have them,'' said Abraham, a student at Frazier Mountain High School in Lebec, Calif.
``It's funny - kids will illegally download a song instead of paying 99 cents for it, but they'll pay $2.99 for a 20-second snippet off a Casio keyboard,''
said Don Passman, a music industry attorney whose clients have included R.E.M. and Janet Jackson

Den 9. marts havde Hotel Proforma premiere på deres nye forestilling 'Theremin'. Forestillingen har taget navn efter den russiske fysiker og opfinder Leon Theremin, der i 1920 opfandt verdens første elektroniske musikinstrument.

one of my favourite instruments
Googleimages Search: Theremin

and a click through from an advertisement Theremin Kit Sales Europe Our theremin kit is capable of sounds ranging from high end shrieks down to thick growls at the low end. It is played by the motion of your hands around the antennas so it is the only music played without actually touching the instrument. The vertical telescopic antenna is for pitch and the horizontal disk is for volume.

Music output is via rca socket so you can connect the theremin to an amplifier, home stereo or PC sound card. There is also a surprisingly loud built in speaker for practice sessions.
