I stopped writing reviews because of a conflict of interest with my career as a performer and conductor. I had started with the Record Review in May 1960.

I was a serving soldier in the Royal Engineers Staff Band. and under British Army regualtions I was forbidden to speak to the press and would start as a student bandmaster at the Royal Military School of Music in 1964.
